Booking a photographer? 7 things to check first

Hiring a photographer is mostly an act of trust. These seven checks take ten minutes and save you from the one regret that cannot be reshot.
1. Ask to see a full gallery
Anyone can post ten great frames. Ask to see one complete shoot from start to finish. Consistency across a whole gallery is the real test.
2. Make sure they shoot your kind of session
A brilliant wedding photographer is not automatically a brilliant product photographer. Look for work that matches what you actually need.
3. Get the delivery details in plain language
How many edited photos, in what format, and by when. A clear timeline is the sign of someone who runs a real business.
4. Understand what is included
Hours of coverage, number of edits, travel, and usage rights. Knowing this up front prevents the awkward invoice later.
5. Meet them first, even on a call
You will be at your most vulnerable in front of the lens. If they put you at ease in a fifteen minute call, that comfort shows up in your photos.
6. Read recent reviews
Look for comments about communication and delivery, not just nice pictures. Recent and specific beats old and vague.
7. Get it in writing
A simple contract covering date, deliverables, deposit and cancellation protects you both. Professionals expect it.
Cheap and rushed is expensive twice. You cannot reshoot a wedding or a launch day.
