Studio or out in the city, I direct gently and keep the mood easy, so you relax and the real you comes through. Eight years and five hundred shoots in Ottawa, in English and Hindi. These are portraits you will be proud to use everywhere, from your wall to your profile.

What it is actually like

Most people arrive a little nervous.

That is normal, and it is my job to fix it, not yours. Almost nobody feels natural in front of a camera for the first ten minutes.

So we do not start with the serious frames. We walk, we talk, and I show you the back of the camera early so you can see it is going well. Somewhere around the fifteen-minute mark you forget I am there. That is when the pictures start.

You will not be left wondering what to do with your hands. I tell you where to look, how to shift your weight, when to breathe out. If something is not working I say so and we move on.

A session runs about an hour. Long enough for a real range, short enough that you do not get tired of it.

Bring two outfits if you want range. Bring a friend if that helps you relax, plenty of people do. And when the gallery lands, tell me which frames you love and I will edit to that.

Where we shoot

Studio, or somewhere in the city.

On location anywhere in Ottawa or Gatineau costs nothing extra, and it is what most people choose. The light outdoors is kinder, and the pictures end up looking like your life rather than a backdrop.

Your own home or office works too, and often better for anyone who feels self-conscious in public. If you want a clean studio background, that is arranged on request and billed separately — for most portraits you do not need one.

Wear solid colours

Blocks of colour photograph better than busy patterns or big logos, which pull the eye away from your face.

Bring two outfits

One you feel strong in, one you feel comfortable in. They usually produce two different people, in a good way.

Late afternoon is best

The hour before sunset is the easiest light there is. Overcast days work well too, so light rain is rarely a reason to move.

How much is a portrait session?

A portrait session is $249 and includes 10 to 15 hand-edited photographs, shot on location in Ottawa. A relaxed one-hour family session is $250.

Where do portrait sessions take place?

On location anywhere in Ottawa or Gatineau at no extra cost: parks, the canal, downtown streets, your home or workplace. The location is planned together, and a studio can be arranged on request (charged separately).

When will I receive my portraits?

Edited photos are delivered within one week of the shoot, in a private online gallery hosted on the studio's own server, ready to download and share. Quick 48-hour delivery is available as a $149 add-on.

What should I wear?

Solid colours and outfits you feel good in photograph best; avoid busy logos. The journal has a full guide, "What to wear to your shoot, without the stress", and outfit changes during a session are welcome.

What happens if it rains?

If it rains on an outdoor shoot, we reschedule at no charge. Overcast light is often the most flattering, so light cloud is not a reason to move.

How long does a portrait session take?

About an hour. That is long enough to get a real range of looks and short enough that you do not get tired of being photographed. Longer sessions and extra outfit changes are easy to add, just say so when you book.

Do you photograph portraits in winter?

Yes. Ottawa winters give clean light and snow makes a beautiful backdrop, and sessions are kept shorter so nobody freezes. Indoor options, your home, an office or a studio arranged on request, work just as well when it is too cold to be outside.

How do I book and pay?

Book online at rudqp.com/client: verify your email, choose what you want captured, and an exact quote arrives by email, usually within one business day. Shoots can often be fitted with a week's notice; 15 to 20 days ahead is ideal, and wedding dates book first. A 50% deposit by e-Transfer or cash secures your date; the balance is paid on the shoot day. Deposits are non-refundable on cancellation. All prices are in Canadian dollars.

Can I use the photos however I like?

You receive high-resolution edited photographs with full personal-use rights: print them, share them, post them anywhere. RAW files are not delivered. Commercial licensing for brands and campaigns is quoted separately.
