The short answer
In 2026, most Ottawa couples invest somewhere between $2,000 and $5,000 for wedding photography. Here's how that tends to break down:
- $1,000 to $2,000, Essential / shorter coverage. Elopements, micro-weddings, or 4 to 6 hours on the day. Great if photography isn't your top priority or your day is small.
- $2,000 to $3,500, Mid-range (where most couples land). Full ceremony-to-reception coverage, an experienced photographer, an engagement session and a polished online gallery.
- $3,500 to $6,000+, Premium / luxury. Full-day coverage, a second shooter, a hand-designed album, wall art and faster delivery.
For reference, my own wedding coverage starts at $300/hour, and collections begin at $1,400 for 5 hours, see the wedding collections for what's included at each level.
What actually drives the price
1. Hours of coverage
The single biggest factor. Getting-ready to last dance is usually 8 to 10 hours; a ceremony and a few portraits might be 4. More hours means more of your story captured.
2. One photographer or two
A second shooter means two angles of every key moment, your reaction and theirs during the vows. It typically adds $400 to $700.
3. Experience & style
You're paying for a trained eye, reliability and a consistent, editorial style, not just hours. A seasoned photographer is calm under pressure and never misses the moment.
4. What you keep
Number of edited images, an album, prints, a teaser reel and how quickly you receive everything all shape the price. Albums and wall art are where most of the lasting value lives.
How to budget (a simple rule)
A common guideline is to set aside roughly 10 to 15% of your total wedding budget for photography. The flowers wilt and the cake is eaten, the photographs are what you keep. If something has to flex, protect the photography.
Cheapest is rarely the best value. A re-shoot isn't possible, you're hiring someone to get it right the first time, every time.
